MTAG doesn't exist. Or does it?

You can talk about almost anything that you want to on this board.

MTAG doesn't exist. Or does it?

Post by tepples »

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is an ISO standard format for compression for continuous-tone still images consisting of a cosine transform followed by quantization, zigzag run-length encoding, and Huffman coding.

MPEG-1* (Moving Picture Experts Group) is an ISO standard format for compression for continuous-tone full motion LDTV video consisting of motion estimation, cosine transform, quantization, zigzag run-length encoding, and Huffman coding. Parallels to JPEG are apparent.

JTAG (Joint Test Action Group) boundary scan is an IEEE standard protocol for reading the state of an electronic circuit through a debug port.

I bet a lot of us wish there were MTAG.

* Not to be confused with MPREG (male pregnancy), a genre of speculative fiction in which the sex contributing the smaller of the two gametes carries the embryo.

If you don't get it:

If MPEG is the change in a JPEG over time, then MTAG must be the change in a JTAG boundary scan over time.

Maybe MTAG would stand for chaining multiple targets to the same JTAG controller, which has been proven, conclusively, and scientifically, to be an impossible problem to solve.

Oh I get it!
MTAG - Moving Test Action Group
A group of stuntmen moving in a cosine zigzag pattern over time, and also something about a certain Huffman person ...or maybe not.

Not to be confused with taking cues from a certain Hoffman person and seeing a cosine zigzag pattern everywhere, that's not actually there.

This could be some kind of Microsoft's new HTML tag, that displays something like "This site requires Internet Explorer to run".
Or maybe a substitute to the mtab, made with some kind of xml.

By the way, wouldn't be more logical that between JPEG and MPEG we had got something like KPEG and LPEG??
