Thanks, TmEE! Good to know. In this case, I could buy a replacement inverter board (all the transformers for the entire monitor on are on a single board) but that wouldn't fix the lamps. There's no way I'm going to try replacing the lamps. :) The stories I've read online are all people trying to do it and generally failing or damaging more things in the process. It's just not worth it.

Overall I'm better off just getting an LED backlit monitor and recycling my 2407WFP -- and that's what I've been doing (trying new monitors; so far most of them are pretty sub-par or have awful bugs), while simultaneously trying to repair this old one so I could at least get my workstation going again. Losing my primary monitor for 2-3 weeks sucked, so I'm happy to have Old Faithful working again for now.
