...taking this picture. :D
It's a huge mailbox on a main street. Hard to miss. I drive by it on almost a daily occurrence and it never fails to bring on a smile. :)

And I go by an NES Rentals shop every weekday on the way to work, but I haven't thought to bring my camera.

Haha! Genious! But what the hell? I don't know about that mailbox system in America but this got to be the longest street with the most houses build in a row.

Roughly, "6502" means it's house #2 in the block that's 65 blocks away from the origin. Cities often have roads that go all the way out to Bufftuck Egypt, and depending on how much territory your city has annexed, the "6500 block" will be before or after the city limits.

all you can be really sure about is the house is close to the end of the 6500 block.. some cities get kind of random with their numbering schemes, especially in residential areas

The second half of "British Numbers confuse Americans - Numberphile", starting at 8:17, implies that this is a difference between American and English city layouts. American house numbers are (absolute distance from origin along road's direction in blocks * 100 + house number within block), which is well suited to America because its cities use grid layout much more often than cities in England.

The original photo was of a house number "6502".

No wonder I get a 404 message. I've only just noticed that the original post dates back almost 10 years.

Why did you suddenly decide to comment on it?

I decided to share "British Numbers confuse Americans - Numberphile" after having watched it for the first time, and this was the most related topic.

That's interesting.
I'll pay more atention on the houses' numbers now.
I remember, as a kid, to have knocked at the door of a house numbered 666 just to see what was going to happen!

A very kind old man opened the door.
I was shocked for a moment!
He invited me to get in and sit.
We talked for a while and he asked what I wanted.
I asked for a cup of water, wich he kindly gave me.
I thanked him and leaved after drinking the water.

Not a big "adventure"...
Most kids just knocked and ran away, but for a circa 7 years old kid that was awesome!
