lockout chip regions

Post by hap »

I just got a few NES games from Ebay. Ufouria (PAL/AU), Blue Shadow (PAL/UK), Castlevania (PAL/UK). My PAL NES is from the European mainland (Netherlands to be exact).

These carts are very worn out, and hard to get working. The most they'll do is show the titlescreen for half a second, with sound and input working, and then resetting, over and over. Looks like my lockout chip is working great ;p

Does anyone have a complete list of lockout chip regions ?

Well, disabling it isn't too hard, but I don't know what effect is to make a game with a wrong lockout in a NES. I'm pretty sure that it was because of this that there is letters A or B on PAL games, the A games was for the UK and B for the rest of europe, I think. All my NES games have the letter B on them or on the box.
Useless, lumbering half-wits don't scare us.

Wrong lockout = teh blink. To defuse it, open your NES and cut pin 4 of the CIC chip.
