I was making a hack for someone and I saw Winter Games was an SGROM. I got a copy and it was an UNROM. Looks like this game comes in both UNROM and SGROM. For the PRG-1 revision it uses UNROM, and SGROM uses the original PRG-0.

Why would they change to a less powerful mapper combination? Wouldn't it also be a little more costly to use 2 logic chips than a MMC1?

That is interesting and surprising. I wonder if they did any bug fixes too, or if it was just a mapper change. Did any other game ever change mappers, I don't think so?

You might think that one chip is cheaper than 2, but the MMC1 has quite a bit more going on inside. Maybe the logic chips got cheaper, or the MMC1 price went up or had a shortage, or they just realized they could do it for less when they were doing another production run. At any rate, it seems like it would cost something to change the mask ROM, too.

R.C. Pro-Am comes to mind, released on AN1ROM (mapper 7) and SEROM (MMC1).

Huh, in that case they moved from TTL logic to the MMC1. It also moved from CHR-RAM to CHR-ROM, so that may have been a factor in the cost, as well. World Games would have had a CHR-RAM in both versions, but I'm sure it wasn't produced in as big of numbers as RC Pro Am was.
