By now I've mostly figured out what the disabled hardware does, but I haven't quite been able to figure out what the rightmost column is.

It consists of eight repeats of the following silicon:
one-repeat-within-rightmost-column-of-2a03dead.png [ 1.08 KiB | Viewed 1700 times ]

But in the middle of each, there's this mysterious gate that I can't persuade myself I know what it's doing:

Elsewhere in the die there's plenty of places where a node has both an explicit pullup and pulldown, but none with the self-pullup hook structure after an explicit pullup.

Here's the corresponding area of the die, before conversion to vectors:

On some level this has to be an inverter, but ... what?
Does anyone else have any idea what's going on here?

Maybe there's a depletion implant on the left "transistor", which would effectively erase it from the circuit? It might've made signal routing slightly easier, but it shouldn't have actually been necessary (a metal trace would've fit easily in there).
