Microcontroller-based ROM emulator for SNES

About a month ago, I saw this: hackday: SNES DRONE aims to rock the SPC700
Which links to this: https://hackaday.io/project/162633-snes-drone
Which links to this: https://github.com/hirschmensch/SNESDRONE-Firmware and https://github.com/hirschmensch/SNESDRONE-PCB

So, I guess, there we go: 512KB ROM emulator on the SNES using a 180MHz ARM CPU. That's about 2.5x as fast as the CPU in the Harmony Cart, so it's possible that it's only good enough for slowrom timing (which is 2.25x as fast as the 2600).

I'm surprised that the firmware is full of C and HAL code; I really would have expected that this would have needed to be written in ASM.
