creating a championship cart...

Post by JHAOC »

Hello every member!

First of all I would like to introduce myself.
I am a retrogame fanatic and have my own retrogame fanpage.

I am thinking of creating a championship for my country in Europe, for the members of my website.

This winner will be the champion of my website for a year, the best retrogamer!

Maybe someone of this site can help me:
How can I do this, or can someone on this forum do this for me?

How can I create a game like NWC, CAMPUS CHALLANGE?

What would be a better idea?
Just take an existing game like NWC, CAMPUS CHALLANGE or create a complete custom game with other games for example Super Mario bros. 3, Super Mario Kart and Sonic?

I hope to hear from you.
I am new on this forum and hope I am not asking something rediculous...

Thanks,

JHAOC!

For one thing, there was no Sonic game for Super NES. By "Sonic" do you refer to the hack of Speedy Gonzales passed off as "Sonic"? For another, that's two platformers, and each iteration of NWC so far has involved three phases of different genres.
  • NWC: platformer, racing, block puzzle
  • NCC: platformer, pinball, block puzzle
  • NCC92: platformer, racing, flight simulation
  • PF94: platformer, racing, baseball
I'm no lawyer but I feel obligated to say this: "I'd recommend creating an entirely custom game from the ground up that includes play styles from three different genres." There's a chance that ROM hacking someone else's copyrighted work and running a contest with prizes around it could get you in trouble. Besides, creating an original game doesn't require you to use or create a suitable multicart mapper; instead, you can use an ordinary mapper.

Copyright lasts 95 years. The Famicom launch titles came out about 30 years ago.

But I might be willing to help you code a few two-minute games if you draw some mock screenshots.

So if I understand you right:
If I provide you few screenshots for the game, for example a screenshot with the logo of the site.
You are willing to rom it? Or are you willing tomake a complete nes cartridge?

Can you tell me what is possible and what the costs will be?

If I had the time, I would do it myself...

The whole idea of a championship cart is quite neat.
How can I create a game like NWC, CAMPUS CHALLANGE?
If you have source code of the games, then you can use a "simple" mapper to switch between games.
You can also use a multicart mapper.
I have a game that maybe could fit in, I'll PM you about it.

Edit:
I just noticed...tepples explained multicart thing earlier, shame on me.

What I'm saying is that I and possibly others are willing to help you create three original NES games designed to fit into a competition multicart.

That would be awesome!

Shall I give the three games?
And is there thepossibility that they can be delivered complete incl. cartridge?
Like I said, it doesn't have to be for free!

I'm pretty sure that by "willing to help" tepples means "teaching you how to do it", not "doing it for you".

Willing to help is great!
But I have to say: I do not know a thing.
so it has to be step by step.
If there is someone who can help in the best way: awesome!

If there is someone who can:
Help me: great
make a rom: awesome
Make it all to a cart: i do not know a wordt for this 1! ;)

Like I said:
Maybe we can put the logo of the website on the start screen?
And I am willing to pay.

Prior to April, it'll be more of a teaching role, but after the entries for the 2014 NESdev competition are finished, I might be able to join the project as a coder. To prepare you for this project, try reading through Nerdy Nights.

By "screenshots", I also meant in-game screenshots. Draw what each of the phases might look like, and I'll give you tips on how to respect the limits of graphics on the NES.

I am a dummy!
I hope there is someone who can create something.
I can put commercial for the website on the promotion poster and in the start screenof the game.
