Credibility of local magazines

Post by Drew Sebastino »

I thought you guys might get a kick out of this:
First Female Protagonist.PNG
Really now: http://www.giantbomb.com/female-protagonists/3015-2287/
The first video game to ever feature a female protagonist was "Metroid." It was first released for the Famicom Disk System on Aug. 6, 1986. Samus, who is dressed in armor throughout the game, is revealed to be a female when players complete the story.
Well, just look at the cover of the magazine...

In case if you were wondering, another horror I found in the magazine was "An Adult's Guide to Minecraft". They were trying to be hip by including video games I guess.

And as to where this magazine came from, I don't have a clue. I found it on the kitchen table.

All I know, is that I'm sick and tired of dungeons and "Mother Brain"

Do you hate Nintendo products but still wish to play video games?

Yet, no one gives two shits about "Pyscho Fox"

Stages 3, rounds 7? What does that even mean?

Pyscho Fox looks like a fun little game.

Off the top of my head, I can think of "Girl's Garden" by Sonic creator Yuji Naka predating Metroid. But 1984 probably isn't the earliest game with a female protagonist. There's also Ms. Pac-Man and Pooyan.

Baraduke also had a female protagonist a year before Metroid, if you want one who's sort of comparable to Samus.

21 total levels maybe? Or 3 2-round stages and one boss round? Maybe 3 stages and 4 boss rounds. I really don't know, I never got that. Probably 21 though. I like how they put the number of players and the necessary accessories in a consistent spot though.

It would be a well designed platformer if it wasn't for the fact that the characters' acceleration is painfully slow. You can't jump a single block gap from a standstill.

Huh? Why? When did I ever care which one was the first female protagonist?

You did (progressively, as always) come up with a lot of rules specifying which female protagonists count and which don't, and that definition is important to define who was the first.

These rules only specify which NES game could go into my game collection as a representative of "game with a female protagonist".
Obviously, these rules are not intended to specify who is or isn't a female protagonist.

"Samus Aran isn't female because she wears a space suit" would be a pretty stupid statement.
My actual statement was just: "If I want to have one game specifically with a female protagonist, then "Metroid" isn't a good candidate for me since you basically never see that Samus is a woman because she wears a space suit."

Therefore, there's no reason to assume that a general talk about the first female game protagonist would provoke a reaction from me regarding my list. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

What? I didn't even write that. It just looks more like some sort of chemistry experiment than cooking. (There's even a weird flask looking thing.) Why are there only vegetables and fruits, and a crap ton at that? Does this woman not eat meat, dairy products, or even bread?

Yeah, I was hesitant to even make this thread because I saw all the "female protagonist" stuff coming from a mile away... As long as it doesn't start a dumb argument though, it's fine. In case you haven't noticed, I'm pretty good at posting shit.
