Nestopia 1.47 overclocked

Post by BZK »

Hello.

I've made an overclocked edition of nestopia 1.47 by setting cycles of all opcodes to zero.
Some games will have graphic or other problems, but you can still play games like Contra Force without any original lags.
Just use any of three .exe files to launch the emulator.

Have fun

I'd think you'd get much better results if you made a hacked-up Dendy mode where frame rate runs at 60FPS instead of 50FPS. Then you mostly maintain game compatibility.

This would mean you have a lot more pre-vblank scanlines, but otherwise keep the same frame timing as NTSC. Only thing is that frequency sweeps, volume envelopes, and frame IRQs would run faster than NTSC.

update :D

Nestopia 1.4.7.0 - no overclocking
Nestopia 1.4.7.1 - minimum overclocking
Nestopia 1.4.7.2 - maximum overclocking

- emulator shows its version on servers
- option "no sprite limit" now works online
- if you've downloaded previous zip, you can just delete old exe and copy 3 new ones

FCEUX supports overclocking via additional scanlines. If I recall you can add scanlines to the vblank period or add extra post-render scanlines. I don't recall any sound issues from it but I didn't check.

In my own emulator I added an overclocking feature that changes the CPU:PPU ratio from 1:3 to 1:2 or 1:1 effectively making the CPU a whole lot faster.

Great work on this! Is the source available for this? Would like to take a peek at it, if possible.

Nestopia is released under the GNU GPLv2 license, which means the source *must* be made available to the public (and not only on request).
