Dirty connector or malfunction?

Post by Zepper »

The games work, sound and inputs work, but the image... is all messed up. I cleaned up the cartridge connectors and tried to clean the console 72pin connector too. No result.

Is this dirty connectors or... malfunction of the console? (Yup, it's a toploader NES compatible console).

Tried down to 12v. No result. The USA NES worked fine though.

Looks to me like one of address lines is broken, because of the repeated stride both horizontally (within the nametable) and vertically (within each tile)

Repetition of 4-tile-wide columns can mean one thing: PA2 is not connecting. Look up the VRAM pinout and the PPU pinout, and check continuity.

It had such glitch (less intense), but it was fine after a few resets/power off->on. This console is over 30 years! ^_^;;
I'll send it for repairs tomorrow. Thanks.

I've got a "naked" PCB from this clone.
Here is the solder side and the component side.
Can someone please draw the full schematics for this?
I think the schematic will help a lot on this and in future repairs.
Thanks in advance.

Edit: I tried to simulate this defect by puting plastic tape on some of the cartridge's contacts but could not get the same result.
Even it's more than one cartridge's connector pin that is bad or it's some pin on the memory/latch interface.
