Re: FROM BELOW [NES Homebrew] OPEN BETA
Hmm... never had any complaints about itch. Do you have an example of a game download site that you prefer?
Re: FROM BELOW [NES Homebrew] OPEN BETA
No particularly; just as long as you can get direct download URLs, is OK.
(Free Hero Mesh - FOSS puzzle game engine)
Re: FROM BELOW [NES Homebrew] OPEN BETA
I am really excited to announce that From Below is getting a physical cartridge release in the coming months. This is going to be a very limited release (likely 50 copies), so to help make sure people who are really interested get a copy, I created a mailing list:
https://mailchi.mp/7c4c11bb4480/from-below-mailing-list
Before the game goes on sale, I will email everyone on that list to give them a heads up.
If you are interested, please sign up, so that I can make sure you get one!

Re: FROM BELOW [NES Homebrew] ON SALE MONDAY NOV 9TH
2 big news items today:
First, the From Below physical cart sale has come and gone... All 50 copies have been sold. Thanks to everyone who bought one, and to everyone who missed out, there is a chance I will being doing the remaining 50 copies of the Limited Edition in the coming months. The best way to keep up to date on that is to join the From Below mailing list:
https://mailchi.mp/7c4c11bb4480/from-below-mailing-list
Second piece of news: the final 1.0 version of From Below is now free to download on itch.io. The is the exact same version found on the physical cart that sold out.

Thanks again for everyone who has supported this game over the last few months, and have made the release such a success! I can't thank you enough!!

Re: FROM BELOW [NES Homebrew] COMPLETE!
I've posted a pretty lengthy blog about my journey from complete noob, to releasing From Below Complete in Box.
Covers everything from my background, what I used to learn NESDev, and my marketing for the game. Next I am planning to do a cost breakdown of what I paid to make the physical copies.

2 pieces of news today!
The cost of producing From Below physical copies:
First, I wrote an article breaking down the costs and profits made off the physical version of From Below. If you have ever wanted to release a CIB copy of a game, I would give this a read!!
http://www.matthughson.com/2020/12/19/t ... e-in-2020/
Vs. From Below Open Beta:
Second, the big news: Vs. From Below is open for Beta Testing! You can read all the details here and download the eprom images as well as a traditional NES ROM (playable in Mesen or any emulator that supports the Vs System).
A huge thanks to lidnariq, whose research and guidance on the Vs. System has made this port possible. Thank you!!

Re: FROM BELOW [NES Homebrew] COMPLETE!
Your link about the Vs. System version is the same as the previous one about manufacture costs.
Re: FROM BELOW [NES Homebrew] COMPLETE!
Any two-screen functionality?
Re: FROM BELOW [NES Homebrew] COMPLETE!
Unfortunately no (although it does run fine on both sides, unlike a few games). My goal was to get a shared leaderboard between both systems, but ended up cutting the featuring.
I got to the point where Primary CPU was functioning properly, but the amount of effort to get it properly communicating with Secondary CPU was not justified by the demand of the feature.
Here's the commit with the WIP version #ifdef'd out: https://github.com/mhughson/mbh-firstne ... 0d5512d78c (In this version I was just storing the entire leaderboard in shared RAM, but if I revived this feature, I would instead store copies in local memory with shared RAM uses as a messaging system to send updates.)
The biggest issue is that I can't find an Emulator that actually emulates the Shared RAM (Mesen seems to try, but crashes), so any testing would need to be done on real hardware, which I do not own. On top of that, the kinds of things required are new to me, so the trial and error of it would be very time consuming without any way to test locally.
I hope to, at some point, put together a really simple Dual System Messaging System demo (pushing a message queue back and forth, etc), but likely not for some time.

Re: FROM BELOW [NES Homebrew] COMPLETE!
Unfortunate it didn't work out, but the first Vs. UniSystem game in 30 years is an awfully good milestone anyway
