Re: Weird Zelda transition screen bug?

Video 1 looks like four nametables being emulated.

Re: Handling Illegal Opcodes

Illegal operation code existed in the unlicensed game "Bio Hazard"(mapper15 version), i dont think option 1 is the right way for emulating Please keep in mind that the mapper 15 version is a bad mapper hack that works properly in no emulator for long. Good dumps use mappers 227 (rev0) and 178 (rev1).

Re: More NSF Requests

I re-did Maniac Mansion (Western Release, NTSC)'s NSF -- trimmed yet included all sound effects, including the Lucasfilm Games logo. Yes, the game's sound format is quite inefficient, and the 100 KiB really do not include anything except the sound code and song/sound effect data. Maniac Mansion (NTS...

Scanlines to CPU cycles

I want to hack an MMC3 game to use a mapper that only has an M2-based IRQ counter. My previous method has been to make a 240-word table containing the results of the formula cycles = (scanline +20) *341 /3 +176 for 240 values of $C000. The "+20" scanline and "+176" cycle offsets account for the dura...

Re: Why did Codemasters make so many version of their cartridges?

#1 and #2 are from Camerica for North America, #3 and #4 are from Codemasters for Europe. So that's one explanation -- different versions for different regions. Within those regions: The Aladdin Deck Enhancer was a cost-reduction measure to make their games cheaper, since the mapper and lockout defe...

Re: For help,Mapper 538's mapper info!

Thank you, krzysiobal. This kind of PAL logic is almost impossible to deduce when just sending dumping scripts to remote collectors. ;)

Re: mapper 19?

Notable examples of mapper 19 games using ROM nametables are "Final Lap", for the race track, and "Mappy Kids", for the world map.

Re: Mapper 176 sub mapper # 2

First, make sure you have the right ROM for testing. I think none of them are in GoodNES, for GoodNES only has "fixed" versions that patch out the JMP to 0100. If you never see a write of $A1 to $A001, then the ROM is not suitable for testing this aspect. For example, "Age of Empires", with copyrigh...

No, the cartridge requires Nintendo's original Family BASIC keyboard.

Mind posting a real-hardware screenshot of it so I can know what it is supposed to look like?

Re: Mapper 176 sub mapper # 2

When designing circuit boards with 8 KiB of CHR-RAM, the CHR-RAM's CHR A10-A12 can be connected straight to PPU A10-12 which means that MMC3 registers 0-5 are ignored ("unbanked 8 KiB CHR-RAM"), or CHR-RAM A10-A12 can be connnected to MMC3 CHR A10-A12 ("banked 8 KiB CHR-RAM"). Those writes set up MM...

Re: Mapper 176 sub mapper # 2

The dumps of Shuang Yue Zhuan (双月传: 095D8678 and "Shen Feng Jian" 神风剑 D5F7AAEF) are nothing like that; they need 32 KiB PRG-RAM and 8 KiB CHR-RAM, although typically a 32 KiB CHR-RAM is mounted. Since they are the Chinese translation of the original Japanese game "Double Moon Densetsu", which is TNR...

Re: Mapper 176 sub mapper # 2

In that case, yes, if $A001.5 is set, it can be assumed to be submapper 2 (Waixing FS00x). However, I have done more hardware tests, and found that the current submapper and other aspects of the specification are insufficient. You might want to delay finalizing your hardware implementation for a wee...

Re: Mapper 176 sub mapper # 2

but the PRG bank register swapping of # $46 and # $47 is different from other features and cannot be compatible with each other. This exclusivity requires the assignment of a mapper number. I don't understand --- the submapper was assigned because the variants are not fully compatible to each other...
