Re: Famicom RGB mod: noob question about ppu [updated]

Yikes, you refer the wiring from the ppu right? the one marked in red in the attachment? Just checked continuity between PPU pin and adapter board, and no success  (even if the diagram shows they are joint). I'll check de solder point and try again. UPDATE: Just checked solder points and they...

Don't post copyrighted material here, unless it's published available under a permissive license.

As far as your actual question ... connect the ROM's highest address line to a switch. Pad both games to 2MB. Concatenate them.

Re: Famicom RGB mod: noob question about ppu [updated]

Those wiggles imply that the NESRGB is failing to find the correct pixel clock. (I don't know why). I'd maybe check the wiring you have for the 21.47MHz clock, and see if that helps at all

Re: Famicom RGB mod: noob question about ppu [updated]

Is it good for every first ten-ish seconds after power on? Or just the one time?

Re: Famicom RGB mod: noob question about ppu

Pins 14-17 are completely ignored by the NESRGB mod - those pins are now reused to get the digital color out of the PPU. So you could even leave them messy. If you want to be able to revert to stock and install the plain PPU back in the socket without the NESRGB mod, then leaving those pins floating...

Kinda reminiscent of "next generation" genome sequencing :)

Yes, the main PCB, or the socket, or the solder.

Re: NES vertical artefacts after cuted 4th leg CIC pal ver

Yeah, I don't think it's the PPU. I think it's the circuit board.

Re: NES vertical artefacts after cuted 4th leg CIC pal ver

... yeah, that's bad. Somehow you've got a bad connection that's overriding PPU A13 = pin 25. No idea how, but both the voltage on the pin and the resistance you've told me imply that's what's wrong.

When is off I has 0V on pins 5 and 6.
Measure resistance from 74HCU04 pin 5 to pin 14?

Re: NES vertical artefacts after cuted 4th leg CIC pal ver

While off, check if something is connecting either 74HCU04 pins 5 or 6 to +5V.

Given that you have two PPUs with the same flaw, I really don't think it's a flaw of the PPU, but I admit I'm beginning to run out of ideas.

Re: NES vertical artefacts after cuted 4th leg CIC pal ver

Regardless, I don't think it's relevant to the symptoms you're seeing. If your multimeter has a logic tester mode, check if PPU pin 25 (A13) is going both high and low when powered. Then check if 74HCU04 pins 5 and 6 are also. Finally, check if PPU RAM pin 18 is also. If it doesn't have a logic test...

In good nes this blue has 1.3uF. Maybe this blue is damage?
instead of 0.5uF? I mean, probably. NESes are pretty old. But I don't think it's relevant to the symptoms you're seeing.
