Re: About MMC5's 2 square channels

So guess it's just fceux the problem itself then. Did not know. :( And as i said i dont own a NES or any carts or anything. so i cant test my game in real-life. I wish i could though try it in a variety of emus and see what happens. Even if the target is real NES hardware, most stuff gets run on em...

The cost of producing From Below physical copies: First, I wrote an article breaking down the costs and profits made off the physical version of From Below. If you have ever wanted to release a CIB copy of a game, I would give this a read!! http://www.matthughson.com/2020/12/19/the-cost-of-making-a...

Re: NESTUDIO - PCM Sample Based Drum Machine

Got the "song mode" going https://i.imgur.com/PBoZbxx.png Some multi-bar output .. now that the pcm output is pretty much sorted out, I'm gonna see about adding additional step sequencer interfaces for the three synths, each one could have their own song and pattern modes. Without the NES synths, an...

Re: Why is Mario's shirt brown?

I found a video of somebody recording off of a SMB arcade machine, and although he does have a brown shirt, it's a much darker shade of brown than what I typically see in emulators. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKk2TkKRAC0 man that RGB output looks amazing compared to composite.. now I feel the ...

Re: Overworld graphics bank swap to Zelda 1 MMC3 conversion?

With MMC1 you can change the entire CHR bank at once. You will end up with a lot of duplicate tiles but it allows you to animate any tile you like

Re: The Epic Game of Impossibility

Nice job.. speaking on the audio, 4kHz is pretty low, though it's still possible to tell what the music is. Impressive you were able to stream the video with the audio, it's a bit warbly but that can't be helped with so much happening every frame. You left a lot of headroom in the audio though, with...

if you just needed to add animation, you could have kept the mapper on MMC1

that looks way better with more shading. Use sprites or something for the eyes if you can't get them to work otherwise

Re: NESTUDIO - PCM Sample Based Drum Machine

Got multiple patterns going, also switched the interface to use decimal values, and indicating when you've got the pitch on various half steps. You can create up to 16 unique patterns with 16 beats each. Each pattern can have 8 unique samples/pitches and also has a unique tempo. Allowing tempos per-...

Saw this NES Raycaster on twitter

Apologies if this is a repost but I thought this was pretty impressive, and I searched and didn't see a recent topic on here about it. Looks like they even got texture mapping going!

Re: $4011 vs MMC5 $5011 for PCM streaming?

If you want to make it 50% louder, you can send the same value to both (inverted on one). For hardware output this might be worth exploring, anything to help raise volume away from the noise floor. I think someone proposed a method of playing DPCM samples while playing PCM to do fine manipulations ...

Re: $4011 vs MMC5 $5011 for PCM streaming?

That is good to know at least it's feasible to get it working some real hardware A crazy idea i had just now.. I wonder if you could output to both 4011 and 5011 and have it output an even louder signal.. maybe some kind of poorman's 16 bit? probably get some clipping somewhere i bet especially on e...

Re: $4011 vs MMC5 $5011 for PCM streaming?

...being able manipulate samples in RAM would be a very desirable feature of MMC5 This is actually pretty significant. $5011 vs. $4011 completely aside, MMC5 probably has the best support of any mapper for large PRG-RAM. Emulator support for that varies, but it's a good interface for it at least. I...

ah well then it's not really worth even bothering with if it can't easily be implemented on the real thing. And the volume being affected on the triangle can also be a good thing if it's desired...

Re: $4011 vs MMC5 $5011 for PCM streaming?

Taking a look at the MMC5 spec, I noticed among other useful features (like large window PRG-RAM banks) was an 8 bit PCM channel, similar to $4011, only with 8 bits vs $4011's 7 bits, and also with the ability to directly read from memory which looks like it may save a few clock cycles The auto-rea...
