Re: Cleaning pcbs

Hmm, that is a good point. I guess I'm more use to when I soak a rag with acetone to clean something, the rag is bone dry in no time flat.

Re: Cleaning pcbs

The problem with hospital wipes is they are 70% ipa and 2% chlohexadine so may leave unwanted residue behind. Well then I guess my PCBs are so clean you could eat off of them! The ones I have state 70% IPA as an active ingredient and water as an inactive ingredient, and no other ingredients l...

Re: SFC Repro cart noob questions

Haha, very practical idea. The IC wouldn't overheat, would it? I guess I could do that in a pinch. I don't really understand what to do with the jumpers on the back of Kira's adapter though... I'm assuming they have something to do CHR or PRG? You don't have to worry about it overheating. Memory ch...

Re: SFC Repro cart noob questions

I have not used any of the adapters I linked above. They are just ones that I've stumbled upon. Fox board: https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/cDNEAA5d I had actually seen the Fox boards before, but... I think those adapters are meant to straight out replace the maskroms component side, at least tha...

Re: SFC Repro cart noob questions

There's two things that will help you with searching for this info. One, the process for making SNES repros is largely the same as it is for NES and Famicom. And two, aside from a few examples where they're different, NES and Famicom carts are usually identical. So try searching for info on making N...

Re: Cleaning pcbs

But I've been curious about commercial flux removers. Since they're advertised for the specific purpose of removing flux, I wonder if they would work better than IPA. I haven't tried one yet, but I'd be curious to know. From my previous job, I was able to take home a few expired lot samples of ProC...

Re: Cleaning pcbs

I too normally just use IPA and a toothbrush to clean something like a cart PCB. The point that makes me start to rethink this though is not the labor (although that would be more of an issue from a production standpoint, I'm purely on a hobby level) but the cost of the alcohol. And anything much la...

Re: SFC Repro cart noob questions

alright, im going to PM the creater of the translation to find out, ill post whatever he says here in case anyone else in interested In regards to the first 16 Mb matching up? You can actually pretty easily figure that out yourself, and this would be worth learning to do for future repro making. Ju...

Re: SFC Repro cart noob questions

Just opened my copy of fire emblem, and it looks like it has both a 32 pin AND a 36 pin mask rom! Now im super confused, what method would you guys use to translate? The important thing is that it has two 36-pin mask ROM sockets, even though one of them is populated with a 32-pin mask ROM. Fire Emb...

Re: SFC Repro cart noob questions

im a stickler for aesthetics, and really like how the console looks with the sfc style carts. Also, id rather not risk my hand slipping and slicing the console in half lol, yours looks like its well done though. It looks good with the cart in the slot, but I will admit I could have done a better jo...

Re: SFC Repro cart noob questions

My main goalis to take individual SFC carts, and ideally, in this order: 1. play them as is (i.e., Super metroid, f-zero) Yeah, luckily a lot of SFC carts are still really cheap. And a lot of them can be played without having to be able to read Japanese. 2: shell swap the japanese cart and english ...

Re: SFC Repro cart noob questions

My suggestion would also be to get a flash cart, although I would say splurge and get the FX Pak Pro (formally the Sd2snes). As expensive as it is, it would be around the same price or even less than the cost of 5 repros including all of the one-time purchases to support make them. And there's cheap...
