Re: Mike Tyson's Punch-Out Disassembly

Pretty cool! If you weren't aware of it already, you might be interested in the Playchoice-10 version of the game (and is the only PC10 game that's not 100% identical to the NES carts). It includes battery-backed RAM, and records the players initials and the shortest match times. The only way to vi...

Re: making NAMCOT 163 / N106 dev-cart

Sorry to revive this thread, but a lot of the images that accompanied the discussion are no longer visible. Does anyone have any advice for mapping the CHR and PRG on a 163? I'd like to see what the wires/pinouts are and the only visible pics are the top side of the zif sockets (and it's way too ti...

What's the address for Init? Does that sub initialize the stack? Are you possibly wiping your return from jsr address?

Re: Anti-spam proposal

@tepples my suggestion was geared towards preventing new users from creating spam topics. It doesnt address anything regarding posting in existing topics, but As far as copying posts to unlock topic creation, maybe limit new users to a max number of posts per day? The idea is to allow users a reason...

Re: Anti-spam proposal

Is it possible to restrict users from creating new topics until they meet a time/post count threshold? Maybe having mods approve topics from new users if they are valid before they are given free reign? If we're adding mods even something like a time delay auto approve giving someone a chance to cat...

Haven't had a chance to investigate myself but the master rom list sounds interesting. Possibly some unavailable or even unknown games in there?

Re: namco 163 general question and info thread

when i get the ram chip on battery power, i need to add a resistor to put the ram in standby when powered down. I'm guessing I'll want to separate /OE and /CE so they're not both drawing on the battery. maybe add a diode to bridge them so only is drawing? I'd strongly recommend reusing the hybrid-p...

Re: namco 163 general question and info thread

expansion audio question: the rom i put on the board uses both nes and exp audio. the exp audio is very quiet- barely audible when tv volume is adjusted for normal nes audio volume. the donor board (kaiju monogatari, 111F0) appears to route exp audio from 163 to the cart edge directly, no components...

Re: namco 163 general question and info thread

I've managed to get sram installed and play a game that makes use of it from eproms. both prg and chr use the nintendo-prg pinout. however, my AVS was not happy when the prg eprom /OE was connected to GND. I changed it so both /OE and /CE are on the /CE line, and it's working. for reference, wiring ...

Re: adding sram to a battery backed namco 163 board

what are: 1A and 2B (2B is connected to 5V on the cart edge) Diodes the brown band smd component Capacitor the IBT chip NPN transistor. Some games back up the 128 bytes of RAM inside the 163 instead. thanks for that. do you have any thoughts on the pin connections? i'm pretty confident this rom is ...

namco 163 general question and info thread

edit: expanding the scope of this thread since I have more questions than just sram I want to add sram to this namco 163 board. I have several questions. first, reference pics (kaiju monogatari). board: IMG_20200704_095149.jpg existing battery circuit to 163: IMG_20200704_093957.jpg the the mapper p...

Way late to the party but did you ever try the gamegun with an ALG game? I had never heard it suggested it worked with anything but that line before this thread.

Re: Making Homebrews / Repros with MMC5

if you need a board with ram, famicom donors are the way to go. if not you could get by with a laser invasion cart.

if you want a ram game in a nes shell, you can buy low profile adapters that will fit a tall famicom board in the nes shell.
