Re: Metroid: "ENGAGE RIDLEY MOTHER F*CKER" ...actually work

Perhaps being mapper hacked to MMC3 is what makes this version load otherwise invalid passwords? I find it amusing that all of the "invalid" passwords seem to load at Tourian. In any case, I'll see if I can source a Kazzo. That's if I feel like it. :P

Re: Metroid: "ENGAGE RIDLEY MOTHER F*CKER" ...actually work

Oh, it's a physical multicart instead of one you've already got dumped? Yeah, that's an extra step in the way. I don't suppose you can easily open the cart and look inside? Here ya go. It's an interesting cartridge, it appears to be a famicom cart mounted to a 72-pin converter. https://cdn.discorda...

Re: Metroid: "ENGAGE RIDLEY MOTHER F*CKER" ...actually work

It's usually possible. What mapper is your multicart? I have no idea, it's possibly one of those new chinese multicarts with improper voltage regulators, which can damage consoles. I don't want to reiterate it all here, but here is a previous thread where we discussed this password and its effects ...

Re: Metroid: "ENGAGE RIDLEY MOTHER F*CKER" ...actually work

Is it possible to rip individual games from multicarts? I can't seem to find this multicart ROM online, perhaps I (or someone else who owns it) could try dumping it? I just wanted to share my "discovery", in case it ever makes me internet famous or whatever. :P

Re: Metroid: "ENGAGE RIDLEY MOTHER F*CKER" ...actually work

I have a lot of thoughts on the matter. All of them are subjective, so they're worthless. What you're actually wanting is something definitive. Threads like this always are; speculation does nothing but brew falsehoods and rumours. What is fact: definitive answers will come from whoever disassemble...

Metroid: "ENGAGE RIDLEY MOTHER F*CKER" ...actually works?

First, pardon the censor as I'm not sure if this forum would tolerate explicit language, even if it's part of a cheat code. Second, I don't know where this should go, I chose hardware since it works on actual NES hardware, and on a specific version of the game. If it's the wrong subforum, feel free ...

Ah, I see. So they are made with tools then. I was always curious about that, thank you.

Re: Questions about modern NES multicarts

That makes sense, since I read somewhere that some multicarts have an inflated PRG ROM chip and I think a CHR RAM chip, so that they throw the graphics they need whenever they wanted to as opposed to having a massive CHR and PRG chip. But I'm more curious as to how the software is put together, at l...

Re: Questions about modern NES multicarts

You should avoid using them, because they will hurt your console by gradually wearing it down with excessive currents. I actually just got done reading about that in another thread. That's pretty wild, I never knew that was such a thing until now. At least I know they use a cheap Chinese PCB, and t...

Questions about modern NES multicarts

This is probably the best board for it, if it's not correct feel free to move it. About a week ago, I purchased a multicart from someone on Etsy, this one in fact. https://www.etsy.com/listing/458208774/143-in-1-nes-super-games-nintendo?ref=shop_home_feat_2 And I've noticed that it has a wide variet...

Re: Benchmarking music players

Hmm, I always assumed that FT produced music was not very optimized for actual game use, guess this benchmarking tool sorta proves that. I reckon the more advanced FT songs (Extends Levant/HertzDevil, anything by Chibi-Tech) would be impossible to work in an NES game scenario, right?

Re: That C64 sound

I was making a joke about how there were two irrelevant games with the same name. Oddly, the European game came out much later than the Japanese game. @Tepples: It's not a remix of a non-NES song, so it's fine. I like that harsh buzzing sound you used though, especially considering that I hate how d...

Re: That C64 sound

GEMS is actually pretty good under the right hands (see Jelly Boy)... I don't suppose you're talking about the GameFreak game of the same name. That might explain why it was given a different title outside Japan, to avoid confusion with the other Nintendo exclusive Jelly Boy game. That said, even t...

Why does the music "break" in certain games?

Basically, I've come to the attention that some games tend to have some issues with their sound systems. For an example, I was playing Elevator Action, and the game's melody got to the point where it wouldn't play unless I was in an elevator (triggering the triangle wave), or shooting/getting shot a...

Re: 8-Bit Hero Trainer

The Famicom having slightly different hardware sort of reminds me of how there were several Japanese-developed USA-exclusive titles. None of the aforementioned games did anything as ambitious as this, but it wouldn't be surprising if this was made back in the day and had to be USA exclusive only for...
