Re: SNESDEV Game Jam Official Announcement

This is wonderful, thanks a lot for making it a reality! There are already 40 people who joined the Jam, so I guess we'll have a lot of games at the end :)! Two suggestions / ideas for the Jam: - Regarding the resources listed on the front page, maybe you should also add a link to PVSNESlib for peop...

Re: Why don't we have a SNES Game Jam?

It's cool to see the competition is coming to shape! Regarding to the last rules set, I really love that there will be a theme so all the entries are "unified" or have something in common besides being SNES games. I think the timeframe (4 months from June to September) is perfect. It's long enough t...

Re: Why don't we have a SNES Game Jam?

Cool video! I love the logo too (but does it mean that the SNES Game Jam theme will be "Heavy Metal" or something like that? :)) Now, to get the ball rolling, you should really make a dedicated forum post or a subforum (like the NES compo) where everyone can post about their game. We also need a for...

Re: Why don't we have a SNES Game Jam?

There is a fellow by the name of Dr. Ludos who is making headway with new SNES games. There might be some good info here. https://drludos.itch.io/the-last-super Thanks for the mention! All my (amateur) SNES games were made 100% in C with PVSNESlib. The full source code of The Last Super is availabl...

Re: Why don't we have a SNES Game Jam?

Regarding limitations, I feel that maybe, for a first event, it would be better to avoid any technical limitations / restrictions. Simply coming up a with "theme" so all the entries are somewhat linked together feels better to me (but this is only my personal opinion of course). What do you mean? O...

Re: A new SNES game for the console 30th birthday! [Open Source]

This is indeed kind of a sequel / extended version of a game I previously made during a jam:
Keeping SNES Alive!

While the previous game was very small scope, this one should entertain you for a longer time! :)

A new SNES game for the console 30th birthday! [Open Source]

Hi everyone! As you may know, today (November 21st) the Super Nintendo (SNES) console turns 30! To celebrate this, I made a new SNES game titled "The Last Super." https://img.itch.zone/aW1hZ2UvODE2MDEwLzQ1ODEyMzYuanBn/347x500/jcF2eo.jpg You'll play as the last SNES cartridge on Earth. You'll have to...

Re: cc65 - Are % and * supported?

I am dropping frames, yah (my original post was just a general question, but I came back to it after trying to fix some sprite flicker). Only in extreme cases, but I'm hoping to make this game as polished as possible. I'm just a CC65 newbie, but if you are looking for useful tips / best pra...

Re: 2019 NESDev Compo RESULTS

Congratulations to the winners for their very impressive entries! Games like Böbl, Nalleland and Falling Tiles (my personal top #3) are a real inspiration and motivation to keep working on my own game and make it better! (Bloodfall, ranked #8 :p). Congratulations to every other entrants too, as I re...

Re: New SNES game: Yo-Yo Shuriken [Cartridge+ROM]

I've just published a long article about making my SNES game Yo-Yo Shuriken . It starts with the various steps I went through to design and program the game. Then, it details how we manufactured new cartridges (with box and manual) for a console whose commercial support ceased more than 20 years ago...

Keeping SNES Alive! A SNES game created in 10h in C (source included)

A few days ago, I participated in the Ludum Dare 46 game jam event on the theme "Keep It Alive." For me, making new games for retro consoles is the best way to keep them alive! So, for this Ludum Dare, I choose to create a brand new game for my favorite console: the Super Nintendo (SNES ). You can p...

Re: New SNES game: Yo-Yo Shuriken [Cartridge+ROM]

Thanks for the details, and sorry it lead to a game over! This is an issue that I did find during beta testing, and I did some fixes to prevent it from happening again (IIRC, the bouncing position is slightly increased or decreased when both X and Y speed of the shuriken are set to prevent an infini...

Re: New SNES game: Yo-Yo Shuriken [Cartridge+ROM]

Thanks a lot for the feedback, it's always very motivating to hear back from players :) I'm glad you enjoyed it! I spend quite a lot of time fine-tuning / balancing the gameplay and the various levels / enemy waves, so I'm happy to hear it seems to work well! Regarding the soft-lock, do you remember...
