Re: More NSF Requests

Nintendo's least impressive Vs. System conversion.

Fun fact: "Popo Team" in Hungarian and German means "Rear end team".

Re: Broken cartridge dump helper

Regarding the $8000.2 stuff, this seems like one variant of Mapper 196.

A one-side Game Doctor game, and a two-side normal FDS game (Silviania).

FDSStick: writing back .raw files

I have written a converter between FDS disk image formats that also aims to be able to create FDSStick .raw files (6 MHz flux-level images, it seems). It can successfully parse .raw images that were dumped by FDSStick as well as those generated by my converter. FDSStick GUI however does not want to ...

Re: Help! CopyNES plugins for Mappers 176, 268, and extended CNROM (128KB CHR)

Mappers 176 and 268 normally only dump with CopyNES in my experience. I wll send you a mapper 176 CopyNES plugin later. As for mapper 268: A CopyNES can dump at most 32 MiB minus 256 bytes in one go, so it's best to dump 16 MiB in each of two goes, and only when outputting to UNIF or headerless file...

Re: NES 2.0 XML Database

New database version, so that people don't start editing the existing XML by hand. Includes RPG Jinsei Game correction, the Virtual Console ROM files, and a bunch of homebrew games/hacks/translations. So much more still to be added in the hacks/translations department...

Re: Help with Kaiser's Highway Star repro

goodnes Highway Star (J) [hM02] ,You seem to have posted PCB on the wiki. I do not know what that sentence is supposed to mean, but the so-called "mapper 2 hacks" of "Highway Star" in GoodNES are not dumps from any cartridge, so any PCB image you may have found cannot be a PCB of said "mapper 2 hac...

Re: Xmas 2016

Would you mind posting the ROM file you dumped? Since the original author already made it publicly available on the retroUSB website, albeit in corrupted form, this should not pose any legal problems. Edit: or, if you want to be absolutely safe, you could post an IPS patch that patches the corrupt f...

Re: Xmas 2016

Be sure to set the battery bit in the dump, in addition to setting it to mapper 30, to denote the UNROM-512 variant that only responds in the $C000-$FFFF range, otherwise even a good dump will not work in emulators with proper UNROM-512 support.

Re: Xmas 2016

"UNROM 512" does not produce a working ROM? You should be able to run the game in Mesen after dumping as UNROM and then changing the mapper number to 30 and setting the battery flag.

Re: Has anyone tried to obtain an "Official Seal" from Nintendo for their game?

I have never seen a Hudson Famicom cartridge that was not made by Nintendo. Konami, Namco, Sunsoft, Taito yes, but not Hudson.

Re: Using Leaked Nintendo Source Code Poses Serious Legal Risk to Emulators [link]

Plenty of non-U.S. hosting options that don't honor American court orders available. And getting a court order in a foreign country on something that is not as trivial as hosting pirated motion pictures, although entirely possible, is at least not easy as a "snap". But yes, if one insists on using G...

Doubtful that they can do that effectively in the case of an open-source project from a pseudonymous author.

Re: NES 2.0 XML Database

That depends on what your emulator needs. The Game Genie BIOS really only has 4 KiB of PRG-ROM and no CHR-ROM/RAM whatsoever, which is also how NintendulatorNRS needs it. I don't know if any other emulator supports emulating the Game Genie using its original BIOS.

Re: NES 2.0 XML Database

Those two will never be in the database, as they are BIOS files of a cheat cartridge that has special hardware. Only one emulator, NintendulatorNRS, emulates the device at all, and that one needs the BIOS as unheadered binary files in its BIOS subdirectory. BIOSes are completely useless as .NES-form...
