ccovell, it was very helpful. You mentioned the two issues that are bothering me the most. I may be able to improve the graphics, but I'm not sure how to combat "dead space", as somebody put it. Ideally, I'm hoping that more different types of enemies will make the problem solve itself eventually, b...

It's indeed very hard, but rather short in return. It exists to please skilled gamers and is intended to be a demo-only thing.

The third level will be completely different.

EDIT:
Hehe koitsu, that's what I get for hiding the place from my beta testers, I guess.

Hmm, indeed. I try to avoid relying on text as much as possible, at least when it comes to explaining essential gameplay mechanics. Not just because small kids should be able to play the game, but because not using text is a more elegant solution in many cases. Did you have problems finding out how ...

Looking pretty good. One odd thing is that you can pause during the game over screen. It looks odd, but I thought it would be best if you could pause the game in as many locations as possible, especially if there is music playing. Is it going to be PAL compatible or am I going to finally have a exc...

Only thing I wish is multi-directional punching, like in Rockin' Kats / Nyankies EDIT: or this is going to be an upgrade ? There's a a "pogo glove" upgrade of some sort planned... and it would make sense to have an upward punch, too. Not sure about diagonal punches, yet. Guess it wouldn't be bad to...

Thanks!

Just submitted it to the contest.

Unfortunately, the full version will take a while to be finished. I'd like to provide a free rom download of it eventually while maybe adding some bonus content to a possible cartridge version.

Hey guys, I'm happy to announce the demo of my new homebrew platformer has been released.
Check it out!

I'd like to thank the community for all the interesting forum topics and helpful documentation. This would not have been possible without you.

Just set this up for my own project. This is a great help, thanks for posting! Stitching something like it together with the help of google would have taken ages. How would I go about adding a manual dependency, though? E.g., I have a python script (msgs.py) that generates an assembly source file (m...

I didn't make it very far on my first few attempts, will try on a real console later.
It seems quite polished and it's also strangely addicting. Certainly one of the "easy to learn, difficult to master" type of games. Me likes :)

So many good games in that list.

I am also pleased Wario Land made it into the top 5. My favorite gameboy title for sure.
Oh, and being a huge sucker for Sunsoft games like Gimmick and Ufouria, I am very happy to see Trip World got a spot in there as well. :)

There are a bunch of useful resources (not just for pixel artists) here: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=3467.0 They may be helpful on your way, but I'm not sure if they can provide you with the systematic approach you are looking for. Anyway, I was thinking of assembling a c...

Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally could be considered as the spiritual predecessor to Mario Kart. Although it isn't really anything like it except for the Mario/Luigi thing going on and maybe the fact that Soyo Oka worked on both games' soundtracks.

I use YY-CHR almost exclusively for graphics editing. It actually does a good job at that. It's simple, so the learning curve is low, and the workflow is decent - rotating, flipping or shifting tiles is just one mouse click away. Especially shifting turns out to be a useful feature when, for example...
