The PS contains a CB x 15 (12 for PAL) oscillator like the Genesis. Apparently it can also divide by 7 for a 7.67 MHz clock, maybe others. For 256/320 modes the period must be the same. The timing is programmable however so games may offset video arbitrarily. I don't think the PS can generate BT.601...

I see, well 480 * (4/3) * (1/(10/11)) = 704 BT.601 pixels, which is widely cited Since 486 lines yields 712.8 pixels, 480 line calibration must be implied. Also it means that the active period is now 704 * (1/13500000) or 52+4/27 us opposed to 52+59/90 us. Quite a dilemma when considering which aspe...

NTSC pixel aspect, DMC DAC

(This thread is somewhat in jest, I needed my own accuracy thread) After seeing the NTSC borders thread, I thought I'd bring this up: I don't think anybody is using the correct pixel-aspect ratio. I have determined the square pixel scaling to be 293 x 240. Originally I thought it was 292, which I se...

Not surprisingly it doesn't look like anybody is using the signals correctly, even after 10 pages of wall-o-texts. The datasheet apparently shows 1K resistors to GND at the outputs, those are required because the last stage is a common-collector/drain amplifier buffering the matrix output. The actua...

I must ask, why the title? And alliteration? It's ambiguous whether "blows" is past or present tense making the title read like a news headline, which is strange. Is the game a reenactment of events? Is the title just double entendre or is it to be an "adult" game hence her bust and bot blowing bein...

Forget using parallel registers to dump a simple ROM, just use a counter... You can either set the LPT to input mode, which you must take precaution with (either series resistors or connect only after safely initializing the control register), or use old-fashioned "nibble mode". For input mode: you ...

Very weird thread.. Who else but Nintendo would design SMB3? Metal Slug was designed by Nazca, former Irem employees. If you like Metal Slug's art then play: Air Duel Armed Police Unit Gallop Undercover Cops In the Hunt (Last Resort) GunForce and Geostorm are basically Metal Slug prototypes with goo...

FitzRoy, I'm sorry if I've attacked your character. You are one stubborn, self-promoting dude (or dudette) though :D (aren't we all?) You pretty much flat out said that board serials could imply everything. Not everything. Boards do decide which chips they accept in their layout, I never meant to im...

So is just about everything that gets done on nesdev.com outside NESemdev. Hey, I'm not making the rules. Yes. FDS. There's the system card that sits horizontally, there's the small vertical board connecting the system card to the Famicom, and there's the board in the disk drive. There are copiers ...

I have no idea what you're replying to because I'm not arguing against chip revisions or saying that board configurations are encoded in their "ID", I'm arguing against redundancy/being over-descriptive. RE Pilotwings: my misunderstanding, I was talking about the mapping, but it happens to be a diff...

For one thing, the chips on a board are not board attributes. Since they aren't being emulated I think they are. Secondly, you're creating a confusing system wherein blankness implies the most standard attribute If by blankness you mean an unpopulated part then yes. It's logical since you must conf...

We know this is true of some SNES titles like Pilotwings. Pilotwings has a different configuration using the same chips, so that surely doesn't make sense. Not at all. Just the tip of this iceberg: there are SxROM boards that have work ram but no video ram ? Yes, but what is populatable is defined ...

Are there cartridges with more than one board? Yes: anything that uses the Aladdin adapter. I could argue that they are separate cartridges instead of boards. Plus none of the ROM boards contain their own mapper hardware requiring configuration. Plus they're unlicensed. Are there boards with more t...

Huh? Is ZapFC is going XML now? I see no logical progression from a year ago in the delimited file front. <cartridge title="Mahjong Taisen (NTSC)(Jap)(1.0).fc"> <board id="nes-txrom"> <chip id="mmc3" /> <chip> <memory id="program" type="*rom" size="262144" hash="494353aa48fd3fe1a1f9ea3cd087ba3acee1c...

As I said: don't use a '238! The active-low '138 is correct. (You almost never see active-high in physical implementations so if you see a situation where you think it's needed you should think twice before proceeding. The reason behind this is that A-L is more efficient logically, GND is always ava...
