Re: Mesen - NES Emulator

Hey Sour, Did some experimentation with the ultrasonic frequencies of the low timers for 2a03 and MMC5. Seems that your emulation of MMC5 ultrasonic frequencies is inaccurate and mimics the method that the 2a03 does by halting generation at 0x07. MMC5 generates tone until it reaches 0x00 and then it...

Re: NovaCon 2018 / NESdev midwest meetup (June 16th)

Usually work Saturdays. Count me in as a maybe. Can bring over prototypes and oddities too. May bring over guitar and laptop. Maybe we can have NerdTracker and FamiTracker jam sessions.

Would be cool if we can talk kev and his manfriend in hanging out too.

Re: Pasofami emulator author Nobuaki ANDOU has passed away

Wow. What a blast from the past. Yeah; I remember Pasofami pretty well. Back in the day when ROMs were rare and you had to juggle among iNES, Pasofami, Nesticle, and fwNES.

Pour one out for a homey.

Re: NES 2.0 Additions Proposal

Just a wild guess, but Nintendo's factory probably tested 2A03 CPUs received from Ricoh, and the test rig had a 2A03 socket and some additional MMIO port that controls the test mode pin, letting the program switch between test mode and run mode. But I imagine that sort of stuff would be even more o...

Re: NES 2.0 Additions Proposal

Not certain how the proposal would be a joke if it's an embedded feature (albeit hidden) within the processor itself. It also gives the emulator an opportunity to let the user know that the type of ROM requires the features enabled; and to provide a compatibility message.

Re: NES 2.0 Additions Proposal

Should we add a Byte 13 reference to the CPU TEST mode being enabled? Not certain if test ROMs have been made yet, but it could also help with accurate emulation of the feature. Not certain if it's even emulated yet either.

Re: NES 2.0 Input device field

Regarding the two Korean microphone games, are we assuming that the mappers should take care of the microphone support on load? Or should they be considered like the Famicom 2p "microphone" games and need their own NES2 input classification for emulator setup?

Re: More NSF Requests

What are those odd sound artifacts that sound like electricity in the Atlantis title screen music? Doesn't look like it's coming from the DMC.

Re: Musetracker

No other channel or command seems to influence the bug behavior. The PCM volume decays and then doesn't continue. The Cxx volume command works as programmed on the PCM channel until the bug happens as well. Looks like some sort of issue in the generative PCM playback routine in relation to engine pl...

Re: Musetracker

hey thefox,

looks like the PCM PWM stuff doesn't want to export properly (located at the "end" of the track). doesn't work on nsfplay, virtualnsf, or nintendulator. mesen goes nuts at that time.

Re: Family Noraebang (패밀리 노래방)

Looks like the ICs for K-663A are still being sold; and that they were used in other arcade cabinet games like Mahjong Tenkaigen.

Wonder if the K-663A were decapped that it would present any differences?
