Re: an NROM to a cart with WRAM

Unfortunately it doesn't work on most of the clone systems :(

Re: Final Fantasy VII NES Project Completed

Finally got around to trying this, but it's an IPS only? Are you afraid of the Chinese pirates suing you for copyright infringement infringement? :D Anyhow, I'm blown away by how much work has been done to this thing! It's freaking amazing! It's hard to recognize this as the original. Unfortunately ...

Re: Protip for TNROM on hardware using INL-ROM!

Um, if you don't understand what those numbers are, it's no small wounder you did not understand the advise of the forum regulars when we told you to initialize the mapper correctly.

Please familiarize yourself with the documentation for mapper 4 (MMC3). You'll be glad you did.

Re: Reset to switch game + Compiling roms to 1 file?

Note that you can detect a reset in software pretty easily. The OP is talking about detecting a reset in hardware only so you can bank between multiple unmodified ROM images within a single cart. I'm not 100% sure what you are referring to with the 2600 carts.

Re: Issue Converting Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! to MMC3 *CHR*

Have you been studying the behavior of MMC2? It banks on access to specific tile ranges. This type of banking is not possible in the MMC3. For one, the MMC3 does not connect the required CHR-ADDR lines needed to decode those accesses. I don't think there's any way to convert MTP to MMC3 without re-w...

Re: NESDev Compo Poll

I've re-worked the design document and changed the tone to PG and it turned out better for it. The first draft made reference to an obscure manga-within-a-manga that I was exposed to through the manga's cartoon adaptation. I think it was a lot funnier to me that it would have been to most others. No...

Re: NESDev Compo Poll

Decision by committee is typically painful in my experience. WhatULive4, just make the decisions and set them in stone. Everyone will have some opinion that differs from yours, but most of us will support you and the competition 100%!

Re: 8x16 and whatever else unreg wants to know

Yea, byte-wide attribute updates are much easier to deal with, but there's just not enough time to push that much data in one frame. You need to split it between multiple frames with an FSM. Basically have a variable that keeps track of what kind of update you're going to do on the next frame, be it...

I thought it was because Bonk sucks? Or did Sonic just have too much rockin' cool 90's attitude? :D

Re: NESDev Compo Poll

So I know the deadline for details is a few days away, but I was wondering if there would be a rule against foul language? I'm writing my design doc (finally got some inspiration :) ) and the humor is coming out PG-13. Nothing obscene, but things I wouldn't want my five-year-old to repeat. As the wh...

Re: NES inside Gameboy DMG Shell (ideas? Not Raspberry PI)

Very similar to the OP, an android device with an emulator just doesn't thrill me quite like an unknown $30 media player that inexplicably also plays NES roms :) Thanks for the links, I appreciate it. I'm not actually going to purchase any of them. I was just quite impressed by the media player thin...

Re: Patterntable #1 and FCEUX

To elaborate a little more, if you haven't initialized all of the MMC1 internal registers, especially those having to do with CHR banking, then you'll have undefined behavior. On the hardware this usually means random behavior. On emulators it means you get their default behavior which may be differ...
