Re: FDS Stick issues on Sharp Twin AN-500B

Hmm. That's not what I expected.
Try running this - http://3dscapture.com/junk/bioschecksum.zip

Re: FDS Stick issues on Sharp Twin AN-500B

Try putting only one game on the fdsstick and see if it runs. I think I know what's wrong (problem with the data write line).

Re: FDS Stick issues on Sharp Twin AN-500B

Is this a newer fdsstick (256M version)? How is it connected to port C? DIY cable? Or did you buy the little adapter board?

Re: Thoughts on these Multicade iCade machines?

For games 30+ years old - it doesn't particularly bother me. There's a couple of these at my local arcade. It's a chance to play obscure games you'd rarely see otherwise. It does irk me when they include games with a control scheme that doesn't match though (e.g. diagonal games like Congo Bongo, QBe...

Re: FDS IRQ reload flag/value

No, the drive itself doesn't generate IRQs. There should be no difference between using a FDSStick and a real drive for IRQ testing. You MIGHT want to load only your test rom onto fdsstick, removing any other games. This will bypass the boot menu and load your rom directly. I'll leave this here , it...

Re: .fds format: Can checksums be heuristically detected?

Do you actually know this for certain? Have you actually, carefully examined every single official FDS disk, licensed and otherwise, and verified without a doubt that no games ever do so? Of course not. Can't prove a negative and all that. But you're asking for a fix to a problem that (as of yet) d...

Re: .fds format: Can checksums be heuristically detected?

My proposal for a new format (that will never get implemented, but one can dream...): A header contains the number of disks, and sizes of each. No fixed disk size, each disk is as long as it needs to be. Each disk is a raw byte-for-byte copy of what goes on the disk including the CRC and GAP data. ...

Re: .fds format: Can checksums be heuristically detected?

No. No No No. I would argue that that feature really is important, but this is based on speculation I need more than your speculation for this to be really important. I don't know this for certain, but I suspect that those very same loading routines can also ignore checksum errors reported by the RA...

Re: Skipping FDS license screen?

Oh, I see. You were suggesting a size optimization. Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. The FDS will keep reading the entire disk side anyway, right? To be clear - by "increase the file count" I mean the value in the File Amount Block , don't actually add another file. That gives the BIOS something t...

Re: Skipping FDS license screen?

Yes of course, you still need to replace the NMI vector. I'm just saying the 256-byte fill is unnecessary.

Write just the one byte ($90) and increase the file count. NMI kicks in while BIOS is busy looking for the next file.

Re: MMC5 test program

Attached is an updated test program that lets you switch to the fill mode nametable by pressing up. Here's what to test: select the fill mode nametable, and then press Select to toggle extended attributes. Do the hex digits filling the screen change, and do they go rainbow-y or all the same color? ...

Re: MMC5 test program

That means, that the Dish docs as well as the wiki document wrong behaviour (each being based on eachother, it's impossible to tell where the "wrong info" comes from). They say the last set written to is used to display graphics, when in reality it's only used when reading through $2007. Correct. B...

Re: anybody put a fat ds's backlit screen in gba original?

Espozo's reply here is the right answer, use a GBA SP screen. Apparently the mod kits are harder to come by now(?). What is your budget? You can find premodded systems on ebay.
