Re: Fake Dendy prototype Game Grumps prank?

Saw this video, and thought it might be fun to discuss here. Posting in General cause it's obviously fake, but I'm kinda curious where they're going with it. Or maybe mission already accomplished cause I'm sure a lot of people will watch this either way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA5ATX7YKLI ...

Re: "Multi-Directional" Scrolling - Advice?

Separating the model (level map) from the view (name tables) is a common practice in software engineering. One of the many advantages is portability - having a model that's platform-independent means you only need to re-engineer the view logic when porting games to other platforms. The NES is not a...

Re: What happened to the Nesdev phpBB theme?!?!

I agree with Tokumaru, just lose the black bg on the NesDev logo on the header and make the dark theme the default one, everything else is completely fine.

Re: "Multi-Directional" Scrolling - Advice?

I'm not a big fan of having two technically decoupled variables for this but it's the alternative who makes the most sense to me right now. The way it works makes me weary of desync bugs... but I guess it can't be helped

Re: "Multi-Directional" Scrolling - Advice?

One thing that is tripping me up though is the 240~255 Y scroll thing. How do you guys handle this? Just skipping the "forbidden zone" during add/substracts are OK but feels error prone, and this means my global camera/collision/spawning logic will also have to comply with that limitaiton, which ma...

The dark prosilver theme quite frankly isn't bad, it's kinda cool actually. I'd settle for it.

Re: "Multi-Directional" Scrolling - Advice?

Thanks guys, and Memblers I'm certainly gonna take a look at your utility. Duplicating stuff is being a pain already and I really haven't begun writing anything substantial  One thing that is tripping me up though is the 240~255 Y scroll thing. Re: What happened to the Nesdev phpBB theme?!?!

my eyes aaaaa

I think updating the board so my password and data doesn't leak precedes having the old theme but that's not to say I won't be eagerly awaiting its return :P

You're always preoccupied with the weirdest things. How about judging stuff in a case-by-case basis?

Re: My first nes game! (DemonDistrict)

I finished it. Pretty neat!

I would maybe tweak the interaction areas and collision detection a bit, and make the menu be exit-able with the A button but this is otherwise pretty cool for a demo.

Re: "Multi-Directional" Scrolling - Advice?

But yeah, single-screen does simplify some of the math of figuring out where writes should go. That's the idea! I love the trickery involved with some similar games but I don't really want to put tech over the actual game this time. I wanna focus on the actual game. before you spend a lot of time o...

"Multi-Directional" Scrolling - Advice?

Well I'm dead set at making a platformer game similar to Super Pitfall (in map size/exploration, calm down ) but there are some basic stuff about a 4/8/whatever way scrolling engine that I'm still confused about. 1. Mapper/Mirroring Ideally I want my game to be compatible with the Nesdev Compet...

Re: 2019 competition?

I had hoped to have my game done by the end of the year, but I think that's increasingly unlikely as that gets closer and closer. I'm torn on whether to submit whatever I do get done, or to wait until it's completely finished before revealing it to the world. Check out Brick Breaker aka Brix Battle...

Aw man I'm sort of jelly right now.

Nice going though, tons of great games were showcased! Maybe I'll try NESmaker someday.

Re: What have you learnt most from programming in assembly?

I was complaining earlier in this thread that I wasn't able to apply my ASM expertise to any real world jobs, but actually I just recently got hired as a software developer due to my 6502 stuff and there's a possibility I'll be messing with ARM programming soon. Neat. I stand impressed. Who made it?...
