Re: on voting

I include gameplay in my overall rating, IIRC. For polish, I look for screen transitions, flourishes, etc—anything that's not essential that enhances he experience. Something like Wolfling's camera scrolling system, Miedow's cutscenes, or nonessential sound effects (such as G2's falling sound effect...

Re: on voting

Voting Method I hadn't voted on method, waiting to read up on Borda method, and I just cast my vote for it. I think it would simplify the act of judging, as it's easier to rank entries against each other, as opposed to assigning a numeric score. The primary benefit is eliminating judges' relative i...

Re: Chicken of the Farm

I like what I played so far. Made it up to the screen shown in your first screen shot. Will play more later. I dig the palette cycles of the title screen, reminds me of Niji no Silkroad.

I like that a lot, far better than my gullet suggestion. :)

Re: 2018 NESDev Compo Rules/Guidelines

We've got one that'll definitely be ready, and a quick side project that might also be ready in time. Writing the OP for posting is final step :).

Re: Cashless society disadvantages

"What if holder of my money doesn't give me my money" is no different of an argument now than it was in the 1800s when it was "trust bank vs mayonnaise jar of cash." But having lived in the US and experienced American banks' predatory practices, I'd say a mayonnaise jar is the better option. :) I tr...

Re: Cashless society disadvantages

The Korean government incentivizes the use of cards by deducting one's spending against income taxes due come tax season. Each year, citizens can request a form from their bank that gives totals spent in a number of categories: general commerce, traditional markets, transportation, and one more, I t...

Ditched the group illustration idea and am instead designing the cover to look like a page out of a yearbook. Should be neat when finished.

Re: NESDev Compo Numbering

Is there any interest in including both 2017 and 2018 competition games on Vol. 4? Pros It seems with the planning of the Master Release that INL has boards that can handle the size. It would provide more bang for the buck for the consumer. (Especially since I'm concerned the current plan for Vol. 5...

Re: NESDev Compo Numbering

Also, transitioning from years to numbers is not unheard of. King of Fighters did it at 11, for instance.

Re: NESDev Compo Numbering

I think the lengthy judging period (which is necessary) and the time between that and multicart release further lends itself to the confusion. Looking at it from a design perspective, and ease of speaking, I think we should place the number after "NESDev" and before "coding competition." "So-and-so ...

Re: Action 53 volume 4

Loose plan for cover art is a Breakfast Club-ish group shot of games' protagonists on a set of outdoor bleachers, something that screams American high school. A school-themed subtitle might be good. Action 53 Vol. 4: Class of 2018 …but that's confusing as it is releasing in 2019 and contest was 2017...

Re: Unnamed Dr.Mario clone

I was thinking a lot more abstract, more like what one would expect from the icons used on a deck of playing cards. I wouldn't even rotate the graphics for connections, etc.

This is awesome. Is Espitene also a hedgehog or another animal?
