Re: Hardware anomalies with a Controller switch

I'm going to speculate that changing the controller bumped the NES just enough to misalign the cart and the CPU read from the wrong address and executed false code for a frame, or so, which somehow overwrote the RAM addresses which caused the glitch. I would have thought the same, if I hadn't screw...

Re: Guidance for creating a pong game (New here)

Personal recommendations: I like recommending this before nerdy nights. It's really simple, and while it's using the same instructions you'll use on NES, it eliminates the need to deal with NES graphics or other complexities while you're taking your first couple steps: https://skilldrick.github.io/e...

Re: Using Windows on a Mac? Or should I just buy a Windows c

I've used VMware Fusion for years and never had any real complaints with it. Boot Camp on the other hand didn't work for me either of the two times I tried it, which have been several years ago. With VMware Fusion, Windows is pretty much a program Window on your Mac desktop, so it's really handy tha...

Re: Untitled adventure game, Milestone 2: Basic gameplay

Hey there! I'm still watching the video now but I wanted to chime in, that if you did these graphics yourself, then they're definitely good enough. I understand if you just don't have the time to do all of the graphics, or if these are place-holder graphics from another source. But people can tend t...

I've heard that resurfacing a disc dry can do this from getting a disc hot and warping it. One instance wherein an operator needs to be on top of his machine to ensure proper results.

Re: How does a game know if "The Disc Cannot Be Read"?

Personally, I wouldn't recommend anyone to stick an optical disc on a grinding wheel. Even resurfacing machines costing up to a couple thousand dollars are still manual machines and the quality of the resurfacing is going to depend a lot on the operator. The one time that I took some discs to a loca...

Re: dragonboy has never started a flame war in his life

Something that I didn't notice till afterwards was that one of smkdan's posts was edited much later on. Okay, he could have modified the post. Let's say that without an archive of changes, the debate is hearsay and we should call it a wash, and not judge your character by it. That sounds fair. Now,...

Re: Space Race

(I bought one awhile back, but have always been disappointed at the low number and low quality of the 4-player games available) Agreed. I've always felt this peripheral was under utilized. I'm often hanging out with more than one friend, and there are very few 4-player NES games worth playing. I re...

The only people on here who've mentioned "dragonboy" was stef and fireball dragon, but what I'm really pissed out about is this: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=165479 A nested <import other forum drama>. I've never seen this technique at play. Is this thread the gene...

Small budget, handheld, buttons: pick two. Handheld and buttons: Nintendo 3DS Small budget and buttons: PC Small budget and handheld: Android He suggested that a fourth option might be to bring a sub-$100 handheld to market, such as the PocketCHIP. Have you ever considered the possibility of publis...

Re: My axes to grind

To take it further, even a million dollars most likely won't get you far enough, and that's for a single game, even though in practice you'll need like ten to even have the hope to barely break even, let alone make a profit. I feel like the rising cost of meeting customer expectations for triple A ...

Re: My axes to grind

If I crowdfunded it, I have at least those orders. In a lot of cases, I'd say that you still need to make most of the game before you can crowdfund it. However, you have something that's worked for a lot of developers in the past, and that's a showcase of work to demonstrate your ability to follow ...

"Don't worry about qualifications for joining a platform's developer program. Just prototype your game on PC first, apply once it's nearly complete, and worry about rejection as it arises." Basically, I feel that it's dangerous to build expectations upon the actions of others. I think you should wo...
