Re: My axes to grind

I had no idea who Robert Pelloni was before this thread, so I had to look him up. From what I've read, I definitely wouldn't allow his rejection to prevent me from trying to do something that I wanted. I believe Nintendo made the right call with not wishing to enter into a professional relationship ...

Re: Subliminal

I think that looks like an animation of a penis.

I made an edit of a bad Canadian movie:

Re: NES-compatible USB capture devices

Does it specifically have to be USB? I haven't used it extensively yet, but I've liked what I've seen out of my ADVC110. It's a FireWire device, and you can snag them on ebay under $100.

Re: Hyper Light Drifter

Mercenary Kings is definitely my favorite Metal Slug-inspired game, but I'm a sucker for Paul Robertson's art style. I hadn't heard of this one. (I'm extremely oblivious to anything post-Dreamcast) It looks really cool. At first impression I feel some of the RPG elements would feel weird in this st...

I think this seems like a nice idea. Good promotion and incentive for completed projects.

Re: Dual 8-way scrolling

Mappy kids and Bigfoot seems to do only horizontal nametable updates, but I like the large middle status bar in Bigfoot ! I've heard that the method for setting vertical scroll mid-screen was not used in any commercial NES games and theoretically had not yet been discovered, which would explain why...

Re: Tattoo Apprentice (WIP)

You won't encounter "enemies" every now and then like a real RPG and have to tattoo them all along the game. Of course IT IS an important part of the game, but I don't want people to get tired of inking and inking skin for hours. Okay, so it's more of an occasional minigame than a replacement for a...

Re: Shutshimi vNES

This looks really nice! I'd suggest some more parallax strips of clouds to make the effect work better. Depending on your mapper choice though, this may be a near impossibility. Also, I noticed that the bullets disappear before moving offscreen. I thought this would make the bullets miss enemies as ...

Re: Tattoo Apprentice (WIP)

I hope that the RPG part will balance everything in the end. I think that part sounds more boring. What do you mean ? Espozo hates RPGs. :) In all fairness, I don't think you should concern yourself too much with critiques from people who have no interest in the genre or the style of game. So...

Re: Tattoo Apprentice (WIP)

It looks very impressive. I'd be worried about the "fun factor" of the tattoo segments though. I think these could be a turn-off for some potential gamers.

Re: All of you who have flash carts, do you play more? Less?

I think there's validity to flash carts "taking some of the magic away" but it's also a personal thing. I personally have a nostalgia for the carts, the manuals, even the boxes. I was one of those people that kept every scrap of paper and tried to keep it in immaculate condition. Even so, I don't li...

Re: Current state of NESDev Main Page and Wiki

I don't think it's an issue of competing with other sites, but rather in competing for the limited patience a potential beginner has. I can totally empathize with someone who gets overwhelmed and discouraged when they go looking for information on a topic, and the information is not well curated and...
