Re: Planning

As someone presenting a low-rated entry, I loved to see my score. It allows to compare to others watching objective numbers and (since details were released) it allows to analyze what's going wrong or not-so-wrong category by category. That's actually a very good thing and my favourite part of parti...

Re: Action 53 volume 3

Fixed mirroring in autosubmulti, primarily affecting Super Tilt Bro. Thank you. Would it be possible to build with the last rom in the Super Tilt Bro. thread? It should fix an ugly v-blank overflow when entering in the options screen. (Oh, and if anybody can confirm it is fixed on actual hardware, ...

Re: Progress Thread - Super Tilt Bro.

The vblank overflow should be fixed . Every time the game changes screen, drawing and NMIs are disabled, an appropriate "screen init" subroutine is called then the drawing is re-enabled (see change_global_game_state subroutine.) So the fix was to process buffers in the "screen init" of the configura...

Re: Progress Thread - Super Tilt Bro.

It's intended to deliver the best experience on PAL (music and gamespeed) but should run on NTSC. Bugs on hardware have two main causes: I am new to NES dev and I have no flashable card to test. So, on the first point. As I understand it a vblank overflow is when I continue to try to write on PPU's ...

Re: Progress Thread - Super Tilt Bro.

Hey thanks for the pointers, I'll try to find some time to fix that. The blue blinking is not wanted and actually not happen standalone. I was sure that I initialised my two nametables before starting the main game mode. I'll double check that. Do action53 support mirroring or do I have to initializ...

Re: Progress Thread - Super Tilt Bro.

Oops, I did not sent the good build last time. Sorry for that.

In this build:
  • We can select between CPU or Human for the player 2
  • The version shown in the title screen is "NESDEV2016 AI"

Re: Action 53 volume 3

Here what I have been able to pull out as screenshot for this evening.

One that I like but is a cropped screenshot:

Another that is ugly but is more in the style of your examples:

Feel free to use it as it is, redraw it or give me clues on how to improve it ;)

As entrant, do we have to do it, do we can do it or somebody dedicated wants to work for us?

The "screenshot" has to be screenshot like or can it be more like cover art?

Re: Action 53 volume 3

For SuperTiltBro., the "2 players ONLY" can be fixed by using the version with AI posted in the progress thread.

Re: Entry Thread - Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Sbock

The fun of rock paper scissors can come from the natural tendency of humans to repeat patterns and the ease of seeing such patterns on opponent's behaviour. A typical human-vs-human rock paper scissor rapidly make you think "I know that he will want to go paper next, I should play scissors, but he's...

Re: Entry Thread - Waddles the Duck

Last thing, to anyone who felt this game was a complete waste of their time, I apologize. Based on the detailed scores, I can tell I got a bunch of 1s - that tells me a lot. I can't give you that time back, but I'll try to make sure if I enter again, it's something worth playing. It was eye opening...

Re: Progress Thread - Super Tilt Bro.

Thank you both for the feedback. As for the platforms. At the beginning I thought this flat one would suffice as it is "Final Destination like", but now that it works it is clear that more platforms/hazards must be an option as not everybody (almost nobody) is ultra-competitive. I will certainly add...

Re: 2016 NESDev Compo - Guidelines/Rules

Thanks Rahsennor for the full reviews! I love it. I remember there being JSNES and em-fceux. Which web-based NES emulator is still maintained? And what kind of latency and Gamepad API support can one expect? From experience: JSNES is not really usable as it have no sound and strange glitches. Em-fce...

Re: Space Race

I really enjoyed it. It is a simple design that works extremely well. The punchy music is just what the game needs. The game is frenetic in action and still let some time to rest between stages. Even the competition's ranking is not bad: the only multi-player game to beat a single-player game! If we...
