My cart runs differently in different emulators

Cartridges can be wired to disable the internal VRAM and provide their own memory in place of it, though. Very few games did it, but there is at least one game that used ROM for name tables.
Heh, I knew it was possible but I didn't know that any game actually did use ROM for nametables. That's very interesting.

It looks like After Burner is the game I was talking about. It's easy to see where they used it, looking at how quickly the background animates and rotates.

Several Namco 163 games clearly have ROM nametables too. At the very least, there's a bunch in Battle Fleet.
