I'm thinking of ways that Sega Genesis video could've been sent through the SNES. Here's what I came up with.

-Scale video to 400x320.
-Display it using interlaced pseudo-hires mode.
-For the BG layers that are being used to render the psuedo-hires mode, only update one layer at a time.
-Both layers carry luma information, but only one chroma channel.

This entire thing flew straight over my head.

What is that? All I know of is actual hires mode, which is either 512x224 or 512x448. Anyway, it's only one 4bpp and a 2bpp background so it's worse, and sprites are still the same size.

Well, luma is the brightness, and chroma is the color isn't it? How would this be as good as the Genesis?

It won't. It will be desaturated.

Psuedo hires mode is like transparency only the transparent layer is dithered at hires.
