I don't think this has been that clear to most people here. After all, is there anybody besides me who ever called him out on it? All I read whenever Alp posted something was "Awesome!", "Can't wait to play it" and "Alp, we're still waiting for your games."

So, no, I didn't get the general vibe that most people here consider him a liar.

Yeah well, I didn't realized it until you called him out on it either.

Yeah, that's something he discussed here as well.

Some posts of him (among others):
http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php? ... 39#p159139
http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php? ... 25#p159575

Another excuse not to release anything (as in: "I was working on a game, but won't show it because the NA guys are dicks").

Regarding his Twitter post:
It's one of the few times where I can kind of understand him. NintendoAge users had the habit of creating reproductions that bordered on counterfeit products, having "F-1 Race" and "Miracle of Almana" carts (or "Ninja Gaiden" hacks with Batman etc.) in boxes that looked like genuine black box and Konami titles, including copyrights, the Nintendo Seal of Quality and all that stuff.
Although, in practice, the splash screen to discourage reproductions is pretty pointless if you never create any game to begin with.

By the way, Alp provided assistance in the recent NES port of Jim Power.

What did he do and where did you get this information from?

Perhaps he gave advice on graphics or optimization. I have a friend who passed this game, said about his presence in the credits.

O.k. Might be the case.

lancuster wrote: Sun Mar 14, 2021 3:22 am or optimization.
 Laughing my ass off.

You still don't fully grasp it, do you?
Alp hasn't programmed anything. No NES-related stuff at all. Never ever. Nada. Niente. Zero. Null. Void. A big black hole of nothingness.
All his claims are lies.

And that also means the guy knows shit about optimization.
Do I really have to dig it up again to make it absolutely clear? Alright, there you go:

Alright? You see it now?

Aren't the credits labeled? "Programmers", "Graphics", "Music", "Sound effects", "Beta testers"?
Do people really just list the names under a generic "Credits"? I.e. the guy who sent the box template to the printing company gets equal billing to the main programmer?

Often the last credits part is "Thanks".

The big question is: Why was this even worth mentioning by lancuster?
So, Alp appears in the credits of a game under some "miscellaneous" category. Yeah? And? I'm still waiting for the punchline.

The first post implied that Alp might actually have programmed something:
lancuster wrote: Sat Mar 13, 2021 7:23 am By the way, Alp provided assistance in the recent NES port of Jim Power.
"assistance in the recent NES port" sounds like this might disprove my accusuations against him. Why else should this information be posted in a thread that ended with the topic of Alp being a liar in regards to his programming work?

So, if he's just listed as a backer or a beta tester (or maybe even because he designed some sprite), what does this have to do with anything?
Wake me up when a game ROM actually lists him under "programming". (But make sure to show me the real, existing ROM or at least a gameplay video. Please don't just reference a still screenshot from Alp's website or one of his Twitter posts again.)

DRW, he has been credited as "special thanks" in Jim Power.

Hmm.

I once got my letter published in a videogame magazine.

I asked the developer about Alp. Here is his answer: "Alp at one point took up the initial and final screensavers, but didn't master it, it's graphics didn't enter the final game."
It seems that he was included in the credits simply for trying to help.
... To be honest, I don't understand him. If he can't program games, why doesn't he honestly admit it? And why can't he collaborate with someone who knows how to program to be really useful?
I dont understand programming, but I can transfer such mockups to the nes rom. And I see that he knows in theory about the graphical limitations of the nes hardware.

I recently spoke to a person familiar with it. And here's what he said: "Alp is a very complex character, as in general all really very gifted people are. Various forum dramas are associated with him, when he suddenly took offense at good words addressed to him — his work was praised, he was told that he could launch a Kickstarter, and get a lot of money. This somehow hurt him, probably the feeling that the work is not good enough, and that he himself is not good enough, and needs money. He cursed with everyone and slammed the door, closed the projects. Then he started drawing for the Atari 2600, making some impressive sketches, but then something similar happened there, too."

 The great programming genius, Mr. Optimizer, Mr. "30 % more compression than SMB", didn't master the screensavers. You can't make this stuff up.

lancuster wrote: Mon Mar 15, 2021 10:24 am ... To be honest, I don't understand him. If he can't program games, why doesn't he honestly admit it?
Yeah, that's the big riddle. I think he likes the praise. Being seen as a good artist isn't enough for him, so he wants people to give him praise for his vaporware.

lancuster wrote: Mon Mar 15, 2021 1:06 pm Alp is a very complex character, as in general all really very gifted people are.
Complex character my ass. Being "gifted" doesn't justify that you're a fucking liar.

And regarding the "very gifted": O.k., he can draw. So what? Have you seen the stuff that my graphics artist is able to produce? "City Trouble"'s in-game graphics are far below her actual potential because I specifically wanted her to do 1985-era sprites.

Have a look at a small slice of what she can come up with:

Images.png

And guess what: She's not a drama queen who lies about her abilities.

So, yeah. Alp may be able to draw, but it's not like he's the the next Picasso or whatever. There are many talented artists out there and they don't need some excuse for being full of shit.

One more thing:
lancuster wrote: Mon Mar 15, 2021 1:06 pm He cursed with everyone and slammed the door, closed the projects.
You see how even the people familiar with him get duped by him? He "closed the projects"? How did he close them? How do you close a project that is not real to begin with?
Remember, we're not talking about an artwork project, but about an apparent game.
If you have a bunch of artworks, but zero code, where's the effective difference between "I'm still working on the project by writing zero code" and "I shut down the project and will not write code for it anymore"?
