CGB IR port used as remote control
Re: CGB IR port used as remote control
Oh, that's so ancient. I remember looking into this something like 20 years ago, finding that it works just fine, but the range is awful, and didn't bother.
Re: CGB IR port used as remote control
Nice to see a working example and article of IR port usage.

The Game Boy Color game Mission Impossible allowed you to make the IR transmitter/receiver function as a remote. What you do is you select the "Agent Organizer" option from the Main Menu and go into "Remote Control" Select one of the four icons and you will see an option to "Learn Signals" and an option to "Send Signals"
Select the Learn Signals option and press any direction on the D-pad or the A or B button. Then face the Game Boy Color's IR window to the remote's IR window and send the command from the remote you want to store in the game like Power On, Input Select, Volume Up/Down, Channel Up/Down etc. The game will inform you if it understands the IR command sequence and will store the sequence into the save memory. When you are done with the Learn Signals option (press start or select) you can select the "Send Signals" option to send the remote's commands you've stored in each button by pressing that button. You can leave the "Send Signals" option by pressing start or select.
