Converting Japanese copies of Chrono Trigger and FFV

Post by ApolloBoy »

I just got a few Super Fami games today and included in the lot were Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy V. I'd like to convert these to have English ROMs but I keep finding conflicting information about what EEPROMs I need. IIRC Chrono Trigger needs a 29F032 but I could be wrong on that. I plan on using TSOP EEPROMs with adapters since I'd like to avoid wire spaghetti with these. Anyone care to chime in?

Wrong forum but you can you pretty much use 29F032/29F033 for any game that has a 36 pin MaskROM. if it's 32 pin slot only you'll have to rewire A20/A21 manually to the MAD-1 or 74LS139 decoder.

Or you just go here: http://www.infiniteneslives.com/snessupplies.php

Don't destroy old carts, even text heavy Japanese ones.

LOL nope, I'd much rather use what I've got rather than spending $42 on PCBs. Plus it's not like I'm gonna take a ratty soldering iron and cheapo desoldering braid on these. What you call "destroying" I call "recycling"...

You just told him not to destroy the carts, but still gave him the tools to do so? These games blow, but even someone destroying (not "recycling") a Shaq-Fu cart makes me cringe.

Err all I want to do is just desolder the original Japanese ROM chip and swap in an EEPROM. Nothing else on the cart will be touched. I just need to know what EEPROM types to get for each game, that's not too much to ask for honestly.

You could just spend $13 and burn your own Rom for a solution.

That doesn't answer my question.

Well, if you are going to use the tsops and the Japanese cart has 2 roms (which means neither rom has A21 pinned to the buss), then at a minimum you have to run 2 jumper wires to the tsop pcb. A21 and the /OE signals.

It does for Chrono Trigger but I'm still not sure about FFV. Sorry I didn't acknowledge you earlier, got too frustrated with the non-answers I guess.
