"Licensed by Nintendo" in US/Europe vs. Japanese games

Post by Ronian53 »

I noticed that every game on Nintendo systems has "Licensed by Nintendo" text in the game despite it already being on the front on the box, but on Japanese games, they don't have that at all. This continued up to the DS, and then after that, the consoles displayed a screen with the console logo with every game booted, if it was a third party it would have "Licensed by Nintendo", and just the Nintendo logo on first parties. Strangely, early Japanese Game Boy games also had the "Licensed by Nintendo" text.

I noticed that for the NES/FC but then I didn't care about later systems. Only NES and SNES lacks a BIOS however, so for other systems the bios will show the Nintendo logo.

The FDS has a security measure that prevents (or is supposed to prevent) games not starting with the KYODAKU screen with some copyright info.
Useless, lumbering half-wits don't scare us.
