Good songs in obscure games

Post by dougeff »

I ran into this song today, which is from Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Heroes of the Lance, a game I'd never heard of or played...but the end theme is really good.

Also, the title song to Pictionary is pretty good, but again, a game I didn't even know exists.

Can anyone else think of a non-popular NES/Famicom game which has surprisingly good music?

For example Chaos World.

It is a JRPG, which has similiar music what you can hear in Shatterhand.

I can't think of any good songs in obscure games, but I can think of several (good) obscure songs in good games. It seems to me that the "iconic" song in a game is often not the best one and maybe instead based on how often or where it's heard in the game. I always wanted to share that because I found it odd, but I wasn't ever going to make a whole topic for it.

I've been liking the Power Blade 2 soundtrack lately, especially this song:

It's by Kinuyo Yamashita, she also wrote half of the original Castlevania soundtrack.

I like the music to Pinbot, the NES port is pretty good but the original YM2151 version kills it (main theme is awesome too):

With him being the honourable president of the Japanese Backgammon League made him the obvious choice of this game's composer, otherwise there probably wasn't much chance for a board game that wasn't even heard of by (most?) many people to have such awesome musics.

I can name "Crisis Force", a shoot em up by Konami:

Also, in how far is "Journey to Silius" obscure?

Two japanese-only(?) games that I think have pretty good music are Dark Lord and Choujin Sentai Jetman.
