Hey team,

A recent NES repairer and my first post here.

I have been collecting NES's on New Zealand's version of eBay and fixing them up. All of them have been power or cart slot related so far. I have got to one that is not outputting any video at all. I have tried pulling signal from Pin21 of the PPU as well. The biggest thing I seem to notice is that the PPU gets really hot. Is it likely that it is dead? Is there a sure fire way to confirm that it is indeed the PPU or could another component be causing it to get that hot.

Any point in the right direction would really be helpful.

Cheers

Does every game work (with sound), just there is no video output or totally no reaction?

If the first, check with multimeter on diode test resistance between pin 21 (VIDEO) and GND/VCC (without desoldering)- might be internally shorted.
Some time ago I described 100% working PPU with internally broken video generating signal.
