AM27C400 Failed to program

Post by ironsniper1 »

hey everyone, I am trying to burn a rom to one of these eproms I have but no matter what rom for what system, from nintendo to sega i try to burn to it, it always fails

i have a uv eraser and have verified that all of them are blank, my programmer is a TL866II plus and i have an adapter to program these chips with my programmer but so far nothing, does anyone have any ideas or advice on what i am doing wrong?

I assume you've already read the ROM back using the programmer and verified that it's unchanged?

Older UVEPROMs sometimes get too slow. It's hard to really test this in a normal programmer: the easiest way to test this is to put it in a system where wrong contents will cause graphical corruption instead of a crash, such as NES, Neo-Geo, or arcade machine tile graphic data.

And what part are you telling the programmer to program the part as? (edit: and what error do you get out of the programming software?)

the error is programming failed and nothing else, i am just opening the rom and trying to program it into the eprom, im still new so i am sure i am doing something wrong in this process

Can you blank check it after programming fails? Is it still blank?
If it's not still blank, what's on it? (you can read it out) How does that compare to the original thing you were programming in?

If it is still blank, have you ever gotten anything else working with this adapter? If so, what?

blank checking says its not blank and it looks like it has some of the rom on it but not all of it as a lot of stuff is in red when comparing it to the rom file itself

this is the first time i am using this adapter and i only got it to use with these chips and some others that dont work with my programmer

Please PM me a zip of the original thing you're trying to program and what you can read back off of the ROM.

My suspicion is that you'll need to redo some of the soldering, or re-seat whatever socket you have on the adapter

Check for problems specifically on A9 (pins 31 or 39 depending on socket). The first 512 bytes of your readback are (almost) correct, but the second 512 bytes are (almost) a repeat of the first 512 bytes.

i dont see anything wrong so far, i can try reflowing the solder joints and see if that helps any, also if its okay, i did another programming with a different chip and would like to send to you to see if it looks the same or how much is missing, this one also failed
