Cheaper alternative to am29F032 or better place to buy

Post by icemanxp300 »

Just wondering if there is a cheaper alternative to these chips or a place that sells them cheaper than $10+ each. If there is an alternative would they work with buy ic's adapter board? Buyic is always out of these chips as well.

The best price I can come up with is about $9.29 each buying 10+

Nope, basically all of the old stock has been bought up by prospectors and/or used.

You can still buy new 5V 2 MiB NOR FLASH (Micron's M29F160F*), and you could stack two with a demux and some tricky soldering.

Alternatively, it might be more affordable to combine various voltage translation things with a 3V ROM... but probably not at 4 MiB.

MBM29F033C works well. Same pinout, cheaper and works with buyic's adapter type III, too!

Nice. I'll give them a shot. 20 for $96 is a lot better than 20 for $185

Why not try some of these? 32mbit EPROMs are approx $1.50-2.00 (eBay)

Are you talking about buying the board? That does look interesting. I was wondering what was involved in making the multi-carts. The main problem would be that the $9 board does not have sram. Not sure how many games that I would want to make that size w/out sram. Then once you buy a shell you already have more invested than just using the tsop + donor.

If talking the save board at $15 a pop plus chip and shell,

You can generally get a 64 save donor that includes a shell for $5 then these new chips ice man just mentioned are $5 plus adapter board you have less than $11 in it, whereas that save board is $15 just for pcb plus shell and eprom that ends up costing double.

Granted it saves you time by not having to desolder the old eprom and battery, but that only takes a few minutes with the right equipment. Unfortunately while I do like those boards it isn't a cheaper alternative.

In a GQ-4X True USB Willem programmer this chip does not appear to be a selection. Since this chip has the same pin-outs as a 29f032 you think that would work or should I just email ask them to update the chip.

It works 100% fine. 29F033 is listed in my TL866 programmer but not 29F032. Both work fine if I put device check off for 29F032.
