I stumbled across this game yesterday:
Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar
It says it took the creator 20 years to complete it. Inspiring stuff! I think I'm gonna buy it despite the huge price tag.
I love things created by people 100% "because they can," or "because they wanted to," and for no external reasons whatsoever...like the Watts Towers, for instance.
Inspiring: Labor-of-love games which took 15+ years to make?

Sometimes you have the exact opposite, see Limbo of the Lost.
Here come the fortune cookies! Here come the fortune cookies! They're wearing paper hats!

Wow, I've been working on my game since 2004 (13 years), still some way to go it seems.GradualGames wrote: It says it took the creator 20 years to complete it. Inspiring stuff! I think I'm gonna buy it despite the huge price tag.

Mystic Searches took a long time, but that includes a long hiatus.

Not quite 15 years, but the story about "Tobias and the Dark Sceptres" is pretty incredible. Fellow starts making his dream indie game, takes 13 years to finish it, then makes an amazing video describing the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b0tSu0QDQ0

This game advertises that it has 600+ hours of gameplay.... Ummm, I don't know if I even want to play that. Like it would take an entire lifetime to play the darn game.
Also I'd like to know how they programmed this. I'm pretty sure 20 years ago they didn't have all those fancy game engines.

They probably had to update it to work on modern hardware several times, but it looks like they didn't change concept or graphics too much over the years.
Wasn't it Duke Nukem Forever that had to be constantly updated because the game became to look outdated all the time due to the very slow development. On this one they didn't seem to care, and went for the retro-look instead.
